Timothy Martin

Timothy Martin is a proud father, leader, advocate, and the founder of Symbolisms for Resilience, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans, first responders, survivors, and anyone facing life's hardships find strength through connection, symbolism, and community.

The son of a United States Marine, Tim grew up all over the world as a military brat. His favorite chapter was the three years he spent in Iwakuni, Japan, from ages thirteen to sixteen, where living among another culture taught him early that meaning is carried in the small things: the objects we keep, the traditions we honor, and the people who stand beside us. Those years shaped everything that followed, including a lifelong passion for military history, from the full sweep of the Second World War to the Marines who earned their legend at Belleau Wood.

For more than two decades, Tim has built a demanding career as an executive in government services, leading large teams and mission-critical operations across the country. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards over the years, but the mission closest to his heart began with a single object: the Coin of Resilience, a tangible reminder to keep fighting, reach out, and never lose hope. What started as one coin found its way into the pockets of hundreds of people across the country, and two years later it grew into Symbolisms for Resilience, the nonprofit built to carry that mission forward.

The stories in this book are his own, but the lessons were sharpened alongside others: Gold Star families he served through his professional work, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and friends fighting battles few ever saw. Those experiences taught him that the weight people carry is rarely visible, and that presence often matters more than answers. He carries his own coin every day. When the weight of life gets heavy, you will most likely find him on the water with a fishing rod in hand, which he will tell you is less about the fish and more about the quiet.

He is the proud father of two wonderful children, who remind him daily why resilience matters, and why the stories we pass down become the most important symbols we leave behind.
